Homeowner Tips
-
Water your lawn early in the morning. Before 10 a.m. is recommended for the best absorption and to avoid evaporation.
Grass will grow best with 0.5 - 1.5 inches of water weekly. This can be from natural rainfall or homeowner watering, 0.5 - 1.5 inches is the target range. Using a sprinkler to distribute water is important to ensure even growth.
Try to avoid overwatering. Some signs you may be overwatering include: spongy feeling when walked on, visible standing water or growing moss/mold.
-
Mowing regularly will prevent weeds from becoming overgrown in your lawn. This will also deter unwanted animals and rodents.
Applying Round-Up or other herbicides.
After Round-Up application, wait 24-48 before pulling the dead weeds.

Aeration is the process of putting holes in the lawn to allow air to enter. This allows the grass to grow deeper roots and make better use of water and fertilizer.
Thatching is the process of removing the layer of thatch, consisting of mostly dead grass, typically done using a thatcher. Thatching is especially useful before fertilizing to allow the fertilizer to blend better with the soil.
